United Way of Brevard has Little Free Libraries throughout Brevard as part of efforts to improve third grade reading. Research shows that a strong education leads to better employment opportunities and a more competitive workforce. However, there are many children in our community who are not reading on grade level by third grade, making it much harder for them to succeed in school. That’s why United Way is working to address this challenge by giving kids in our community greater access to books.

According to United Way President, Caron Partridge, “The goal is to engage the community to share their love of reading and books with local kids who might not have access to the local libraries or even worse those who don’t have any books at home. The idea is to take a book, read a book and leave a book. It’s building a sense of community and sharing. Through our partnerships with local businesses, United Way plans to continue to place Little Free Libraries throughout Brevard.
