Reading Initiative Program
Reading Initiative Programs
A quality education is key to building a good life and better employment opportunities. However, many local kids struggle to read by 3rd grade. This initiative focuses on the importance of early brain development and its impact on later educational success. United Way of Brevard invests in an array of strategies that support young children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional readiness for starting school.
2nd Grade Read to Succeed Program
Since 2020 United Way of Brevard proudly partners with Brevard Public Schools Office of Title 1 to promote early grade reading. Currently 15 schools participate in the program. United Way provides fun reading incentives to stock teachers' "Treasure Boxes" to encourage and reward reading.
Success is measured through monitoring progress of iReady Lessons and Diagnostic Scores during the school year. Results so far show an increased desire for students to read and pass lessons to increase reading ability and get a "Treasure".
